If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough. Robert Capa
Neil Jowsey is a self taught photographer with a passion for music who stumbled upon the wonders of music photography when he stuck his first DSLR under the microphone stands of some of the local bands in York. Neither party knew just what had hit them…
A technical career lead to an under-utilised right side of the brain; and I guess, an over used left side! Photography has taught me to see 'curves' where I'd normally see 'straight lines', quite a revelation.
That was three cameras, 30,000 exposures and countless pints of Guinness ago. Bands come and go but photographs are here forever.
Photographing live music is technically challenging, but immensely rewarding when you know you've captured that instant of pure magic in camera.
In my photographs I aim to record the atmosphere and emotion of the event, from both sides of the stage. I fully endorse Robert Capa's views; long lenses bring me close to the action and produce the most interesting images. Fun, I also have fun taking photos, life's too short not too!
I take photos in my spare time; this little web site allows me show off some of my favourite images to a wider audience. If you like what I do, or, if you'd like me to take some photos of your band, please get in touch via the Contact page.
